The way of polls
I gave my students a quiz yesterday, and question 1 was “Will you vote for Bush or Kerry?”. 1 point (out of 21 total for the quiz). One clueless wanker threatened to report me to the academic standards body for asking such a nonsensical question - at least, if I took points off for his answer. The correct answer was “neither, since I’m not American”, which about 3 of the 25 kids got. The rest were unanimous for Kerry, mostly on the basis of characterizations like “Bush is a fascist monkey.” I’m a computer scientist, not a sociologist, so I don’t really know what to make of these results, but it was an interesting exercise anyway.
